For years Miguel has been the co leader of Martinez Move, a group with both national and international success. Ever since it started

the Martinez Move is one of the influential bands in the field of jazz and dance cross-over. Together with the New Cool Collective, these days the Martinez Move is considered to be the most important exponent of the Nu Jazz (contemporary ‘happening’ jazz). Martinez Move won first prize at the jazz festival of Getxco (San Sebastian), toured successfully through the province of Andalucia and in 2002 performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival Cape Town.

Some ten years ago Juan joined the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, the jazz counter part of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. During these past years, this big band has developed into one of the best in the Netherlands, with numerous international famous solo guest players and a great number of concerts in the Netherlands and abroad. Juan is also co-leader of the Juan Martinez/Nils van Haften Quintet. This band (with John Engels, Rob van Bavel and Misha Mengelberg) focuses on more complex musical structures and forms. This group has built up a good reputation amongst connoisseurs and was graciously received by both press and public.

Review North Sea Jazzfestival 2006Los Hermanos Martinez: behind this Spanish name two Dutch brothers hide: the saxophone players Juan en Miguel Martinez.
Together with pianist Rob van Bavel, at times seemingly disposing over three in stead of two hands, we are treated to beautiful harmonized, thanks to John Engels on drums also particularly swinging music. Juan and Miguel have each been playing in a great variety of bands; together they prove to be able to bring to live the experiments of the illustrous duo Wayne Marsh and Lee Konitz. By choosing the comibation of the high soprano sax with the low grunting of the baritone these two voices give the music a daring sound.
Therefore, Los Hermanos Martinez should continue their research. This band will make listening to their music for a number of sets absolutely worth your while.
